What is a number pattern?
Number patterns are groups of numbers that follow rules.
Example 1
Look, friends! The numbers are 1, 2, 3, 4 — we add 1 each time, so the number pattern is adding 1!
Example 2
Now look at these numbers: 2, 4, 6, 8 — we add 2 each time, so the number pattern is add 2!
Now look at 8, 7, 6, 5 — we take away 1 each time, so the number pattern is minus 1!
Example 3
Look at the numbers: 1, 7, 1, 7. The numbers repeat in order 1, 7, so the next number is 1.
